Happiness is situational: Joy is continuing
I have understood happy moments to be permanent yet they are just the opposite. It is in those happy moments that I have been able to cherish , taking in the moment so that it is etched in my mind never to be forgotten, I realize that they are temporary. So why do we seem to understand happiness the same as joy when happiness is temporary and joy is more permanent? It is due to the misunderstanding of the truth that joy is a produce of the Spirit of God living within us. Joy isn't circumstantial based on what is temporary it is based on the on going fruit of the Spirit. In this scripture Nehemiah is met in a rock and a hard place yet he's still encouraging the people to realize where and who their strength comes from.
When we look at joy it is then we find the peace that passes understanding because of the connection peace and joy have which is the Spirit of God, again the product of the fruit we carry by abiding in him (See John 15:5 ; Galatians 5:22).
Strength is not my own and neither is joy because where is comes from holds my spirit and my soul for eternity in heaven with Jesus.
Does laughter come from joy or happiness? It comes from both because joy is expressed through a smile or a laugh. You have heard it said before that God has a sense of humor ? He does and I assure you it isn't a dry one ; it's an oily sense of humor because the oil of his joy is given for those who mourn! Joy has also been an acrynom for Jesus Others and You, as well balanced as this is joy is even deeper than that!
I say JOY is
Just
One
Yes
Just One Yes is the choice to choose to praise and worship the One person who can tangibly embrace you with his grace because nothing else will satisfy you like being in his presence. He inhabits , dwells, in and with those who worship him in spirit and in truth. In his presence is the fullness of JOY and that my friends is better than any temporarily happiness you'll have try to find in this world. Happiness is based on a temporary situation Joy is choosing Jesus when the situation(s) don't appear so pleasant.
What would your acrynom be for Joy?
